“(Juneberry Table is) the most unassuming gem in Ohio City right now. Tucked into 3900 Lorain Ave., it’s the latest chapter from chef Karen Small, who closed her long-running Flying Fig and turned her attention to something brighter, simpler, deeply rooted in place.
Without Small and Great Lakes Brewing Company, Ohio City wouldn’t be what it is today.
The café name comes from the understated juneberry, a small native fruit also known as a serviceberry—an understated, common species across the Ohio River Valley.
Step inside and you’ll see what I mean. The cozy dining room only seats about 35 but feels breathable thanks to wide windows and loads of natural light. The vibe is casual, comfortable and welcoming — equal parts neighborhood café and modern diner.
The food leans into Appalachian and southern Ohio influences while staying fresh and contemporary. Breakfast favorites include spelt pancakes, sweet potato cinnamon rolls and a cheddar-chive biscuit that will ruin you for all others.
Bring me all the sweetened cream cheese French toast and fresh sausage patties, stat!
